What is Hipster? - My personal view - By Sophie Agudelo

Hipster is Defined by the dictionary as a person who follows the latest trends and fashions, especially those regarded as being outside the cultural mainstream.
Hipster is a word that has been around since the 1940s, back then the word was used to describe a middle class young, white person who rejected anything mainstream and had a relaxing attitude towards life. This isn’t very far from the image a modern hipster is associated with. If you listen to bands no one else does (probably on a record player), wear non-prescription glasses as a fashion choice, and hate consumerism, chances are that you are a modern day hipster. Though in recent years, hipsters have had negative light shed on the, being called “pretentious know-it-alls” , let’s not forget all that these edgy hipsters have contributed to fashion.
Hipster fashion has taken the world by storm and even non-hipsters can be seen in the recognizable trends. Hipster fashion includes fedoras, collared shirts, round sunglasses, skinny jeans, vests, overalls, stripes, suspenders, and lots of denim; that is only being the tip of the iceberg. Hipster fashion has had a giant influence on how people dress and I don’t see this changing any time soon. Hipsters and their influence can be seen all over the world and I think everyone has a bit of hipster in them. You may dress like a hipster and not even know it because these trends have infiltrated themselves into mainstream fashion, you yourself could even be a modern day hipster, and in my opinion, that’s not too bad.
